Simon Cowell has tapped up Kesha to become the fourth judge on this year’s X Factor.
The American singer has been in talks with the music mogul for weeks about sitting alongside himself, Cheryl Cole and Louis Walsh.
Former Spice girl Mel B, who show sources say Cowell is “extremely fond of”, is also in the running.
One said: “Simon has held numerous conversations and is keen on Kesha. He thinks she’s edgy and would appeal to a different audience to the other three.
“He is keen to get an American in, just for a bit of variety. Nothing is signed but she’s a front-runner.”
Show chief Cowell has looked at various stars, including Olly Murs, who is on tour at the time and Ellie Goulding, who is not thought sparky enough.
Nicole Scherzinger isn’t returning, Robbie Williams is a no, as is Black Eyed Peas star Fergie.
The music mogul has his eye on her
Kesha, who until last month styled herself as Ke$ha, had a 2010 UK number one hit with We R Who We R.
She is a respected songwriter in the States and has reportedly sold more than 35 million records in America and 57 million worldwide.
However, in January this year she checked into rehab for six weeks of treatment for anorexia and bulimia.
Afterwards, she tweeted: “Happy to be back! Feeling healthy & working on tons of new music.”
Will there be another happy tweet revealing she has the X Factor anytime soon? Over to you, Mr C.

Proud to say shes our idol! Absolutely stunning!
She checked into rehab at the beginning of January to overcome an eating disorder.
And now Kesha has made her first red carpet appearance since leaving the facility earlier this month, dazzling in a floor-length gown at a Humane Society gala in Beverly Hills on Saturday evening.
The 27-year-old singer glowed with health and radiated happiness
as she posed in a sparkling sheer black halterneck dress.
Having lost none of her individual style, the Timber singer sported shoulder-length pink hair, with a streak of soft green running through it.
Fingers full of statement rings glinted in the camera flashes and matched her gold tooth and nose ring.
Kesha’s dewy complexion was complimented by nude lips and dusky eye make-up.
The pop princess, who recently dropped the dollar sign from her name, thanked her fans for their support during the difficult time, which saw her mother Pebe join her at the Chicago-based facility after suffering post-traumatic stress disorder.

The singer is starting fresh after leaving rehab, and that means she is reverting back to her birth name.
The “Timber” crooner’s rep confirms to E! News that she is using the letter “S instead of the symbol “$.” The pop superstar also changed her Twitter handle from @Ke$haSuxx to @KeshaRose.
Kesha returned to Los Angeles after a two-month treatment program for an eating disorder at Illinois’ Timberline Knolls. The smiling 27-year-old was photographed at LAX on Thursday with rainbow hair and a sweatshirt that read “Ima Survivor.”
"Happy to be back!" she happily tweeted. “Feeling healthy & working on tons of new music. I can’t thank my fans enough for all the love & support u have given me.” After posting emoji hearts and a rainbow, the Nashville-raised musician added, “Life is beautiful. I’m so blessed to have u all.”
Kesha entered treatment in January and told E! News in a statement, “I’m a crusader for being yourself and loving yourself but I’ve found it hard to practice.”
In February, she extended her 30-day stay and postponed her spring tour to focus on getting “my health back on track,” she told E! News in a statement. “All of your support has been so amazing. I couldn’t have done this without you all. I look forward to coming back stronger than ever on the next tour.”
Her mother, Pebe Sebert, later entered the same Chicago-area treatment facility to seek help for post-traumatic stress disorder.
